Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 1, 2026

This policy covers Knowbrook, run by Knowbrook. It is written for readers in the United States, which is who the site is for. We try to collect as little as we can. Most visitors only read articles, and for them very little is collected beyond what their browser and our advertising partners handle.

The short version

  • You do not need an account to read the site, and we do not ask for one.
  • If you write to us through the contact form, we keep your message so we can answer it.
  • Our ad partners, including Google, may use cookies to show ads. You can turn personalized ads off (see below).
  • We do not sell your name, email address or messages.

What we collect

When you read the site

Our web server and hosting provider keep standard logs. These include your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for, the page that sent you here and the time. We use them to keep the site running, to find errors and to block abuse. Article pages do not ask you for personal details.

When you use the contact form

We collect your name, email address, subject and message. We also save your IP address and browser details with the message to help us spot spam. We use this information to read and answer your message and to keep a record of the conversation. We do not add you to a mailing list.

Search

When you use the site search, the words you type are sent to our server to find matching articles. We do not link searches to your identity.

Cookies and similar technology

A cookie is a small file that a website saves in your browser. Here is what is used on this site:

  • Security cookies for forms. The contact page sets a short-lived cookie that protects the form from forgery. It does not track you.
  • Analytics. We may use Google Analytics to see which pages are read and how people find the site. It sets cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, device type and approximate location. You can stop this with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
  • Advertising. Ads on the site may be served by Google AdSense and other ad partners, who use cookies and similar technology (see below).
  • App and speed features. To load faster and to work as a home-screen app, your browser may store copies of our fonts, images and style files. These files contain no personal information. Our fonts are hosted on our own server, not loaded from a third party.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works, but ads may be less relevant to you.

Advertising

We show ads to pay for the site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your past visits to this site and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and other sites on the internet.

You have choices:

  • Turn off personalized ads in Google Ads Settings.
  • Opt out of many other ad networks at optout.aboutads.info (Digital Advertising Alliance) or optout.networkadvertising.org (Network Advertising Initiative).
  • Use your phone's advertising controls: "Limit Ad Tracking" or the app-tracking settings on iPhone, and "Delete advertising ID" on Android.

Opting out does not remove ads. It makes them less tailored to you. To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

How we use information

  • To run the site, fix problems and keep it secure.
  • To answer messages and requests.
  • To understand which topics readers find useful.
  • To show advertising.
  • To follow the law and to protect our rights.

Who else sees your information

We share information only with companies that help us run the site, such as our hosting, email, analytics and advertising providers, and only to the extent they need it for that job. We may also share information if the law or a court requires it, or to stop fraud or abuse. We do not sell your contact form information.

How long we keep it

Server logs are kept for a limited time and then removed. Contact messages are kept as long as we need them to answer you and to keep a reasonable record, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time.

Your rights under state privacy laws

Several states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Utah and Virginia, give residents rights over their personal information. Depending on where you live, you may be able to:

  • ask what personal information we have about you and get a copy;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, or of targeted advertising;
  • not be treated worse for using these rights.

We do not sell personal information for money. Some state laws treat the use of advertising cookies as "sharing" or "targeted advertising," which is why the opt-out choices above matter. To make a request, contact us. We may ask you to confirm your identity, and we will respond within the time your state's law requires, which is usually 45 days.

Do Not Track

Browsers have a "Do Not Track" setting. There is no common standard for how websites should respond to it, so this site does not change how it works when the setting is on.

Children

This site is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

Our articles link to other websites, such as government agencies. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please read their policies.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and limited access to messages. No website or storage method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Please check back from time to time.
