About us
Knowbrook answers the kind of questions people type into a search box when they need to get something done. What is a security deposit? How do I check the oil in my car? Do I have to fill out the FAFSA? We write each answer for someone who has never had to deal with the topic before.
Why we write this
The most accurate information usually comes from government agencies, banks and schools, and it is often written for people who already know the subject. A lot of the rest is written to sell something. We try to sit in between: explain the topic in everyday words, tell you where the official source is, and leave the sales pitch out.
What we cover
Everything here is written for the United States. Where a rule changes from state to state, we say so instead of guessing.
- Money & Finance: Clear explanations of banking, credit, saving, insurance and taxes for people in the United States.
- Jobs & Careers: Guides to careers, job roles, salaries, skills and the modern US workplace.
- Housing & Home: Renting, buying, moving, maintaining and running a home in the United States.
- Cars & Transportation: Buying, selling, insuring and maintaining a vehicle in the United States.
- Education: Degrees, colleges, financial aid, scholarships and education terms explained.
- Technology & Digital Life: Computers, internet, software, online security and digital services in plain English.
How an article gets made
- We pick a question that people ask again and again and that will still be true next year.
- The author reads the official sources first, such as federal and state agencies, and writes from those.
- A second read checks that the explanation is correct, that the numbers match the source, and that a beginner can follow it.
- The page shows who wrote it, when it was published and when it was last updated.
- We come back to it when something changes, and when a reader points out a mistake.

What we do not do
- We do not give personal financial, legal, tax or medical advice. Our articles are general information. Our disclaimer explains this in more detail.
- We do not take money to rank a product or to change what an article says.
- We do not publish news, rumors or opinion pieces dressed up as guides.
How the site pays for itself
The site shows ads. They are labeled, they sit apart from the article text, and the people who write the guides do not choose them. Our privacy policy explains how ads and cookies work and how to turn off personalized ads.
Tell us when we get it wrong
If an article is out of date, unclear or wrong, please send us a note. We read every message, and we fix confirmed errors and update the page date when we do.
